Introduction In this case study, I will be comparing the two countries Vietnam and the Philippines. During the second phase, which was from 1936-1946, the Philippines was established as a commonwealth nation the US, which allowed the Philippines 10 years to transition in to an independent nation. When the nation finally beca me independent for the US, World War II took a huge toll on their economy so, as a result the country still relied on US markets. The country remained a democracy, but is still under US military aid (Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, 2015). My case study will compare and contrast the differences in economic and social situations of the two countries. More importantly I will study why each of these countries have high rates of HIV/AIDS and what is being done to prevent the spread of the disease. II. Description of Focus Since the HIV epidemic has begun, almost 78 million people have been infected with HIV and 39 million people have died from the virus.
