April Sigrest Professor Lenoir English 102 13 September 2017 The Beauty of Advertising In a society where we are encouraged to purchase the top brands, the shiniest jewelry, and the best products on the market, companies have began to put themselves out there. One of the main ways they have attempted to accomplish this is through advertising. Advertisements can be found virtually anywhere ranging from the newspaper to TV commercials to billboards†¦ The possibilities are endless. Competition in the advertising world is fierce as corporations do their best to persuade their audience to buy their product, convince consumers that their product is the best, and overall come out on top. Starring in movies like Tron, Cowboys Aliens, and People Like Us, as well as popular television shows such as House, Wilde appeals to those who might not even buy Revlon’s products. This alone is a powerful tactic in persuading viewers of the ad to buy the product. â€Å"Celebrity branding,† as Wilson Dzisah labels it in the European Journal of Business and Management, â€Å"is the use of famous athletes, movie stars, music icons and television stars in promoting or advertising of goods and services† (Dzisah 200). He claims one of the main reasons that celebrity branding is so convincing to the average consumer is, â€Å"Celebrities are generally attractive, which helps persuasion when the product is attractive related† (Dzisah 201). Generally, a makeup company such as Revlon will hire an actress that is associated as attractive and that some might even recognize. If their products continue to sell, businesses will continue hiring their models. Dzisah continues saying, â€Å"Advertisers recognize the value of using celebrities, and think; they draw attention to advertising messages in a much cluttered media environment,† (Dzisah 201) meaning that celebrities used in advertisin g contribute to gaining attention to a product. Aside from using celebrity branding, Revlon also puts all of the focus on the lipstick color.
